March 26, 2006 Bulletin
The Order for the Worship of God
Faith Presbyterian Church 9:30 a.m., March 26, 2006 We invite all into a common discipline of silence as we gather for worship. Then we will greet and welcome one another into the presence of the Lord.PreludeFantasie on "Holy, Holy, Holy" --Piet Post (Holland
Greeting & Invocation
Hymn # 410 "Crown Him with Many Crowns"
Psalter: Psalm 2 (Read responsively)
1Why do the nations conspire, and the peoples plot in vain?
2The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and his anointed, saying,
3“Let us burst their bonds asunder, and cast their cords from us.”
4He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord has them in derision.
5Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying,
6“I have set my king on Zion, my holy hill.”
7I will tell of the decree of the Lord: He said to me, “You are my son; today I have begotten you.
8Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.
9You shall break them with a rod of iron, and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”
10Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth.
11Serve the Lord with fear, with trembling kiss his feet, or he will be angry, and you will perish in the way;
12for his wrath is quickly kindled. Happy are all who take refuge in him.
Anthem"Bless the Lord" --Ludwig van Beethoven
Prayer for Illumination
Old Testament Lesson: Isaiah 53: 1 - 7
1Who has believed what we have heard? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? 2For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. 3He was despised and rejected by others; a man of suffering and acquainted with infirmity; and as one from whom others hide their faces he was despised, and we held him of no account.
4Surely he has borne our infirmities and carried our diseases; yet we accounted him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted. 5But he was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the punishment that made us whole, and by his bruises we are healed. 6All we like sheep have gone astray; we have all turned to our own way, and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
Lector: “This is the Word of God.”
Congregation: “Thanks be to God for His Word.”
Children’s Sermon
Hymn # 72 "Before the Throne of God Above"
New Testament Lesson: John 1: 25 - 34
25They asked him, “Why then are you baptizing if you are neither the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?” 26John answered them, “I baptize with water. Among you stands one whom you do not know, 27the one who is coming after me; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandal.” 28This took place in Bethany across the Jordan where John was baptizing.
29The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him and declared, “Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! 30This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks ahead of me because he was before me.’ 31I myself did not know him; but I came baptizing with water for this reason, that he might be revealed to Israel.” 32And John testified, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. 33I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34And I myself have seen and have testified that this is the Son of God.”

Worship
…is the quickening of conscience by God’s holiness;
the nourishment of mind with His truth;
the purifying of imagination by His beauty;
the opening of the heart to His love;
the surrender of the will to His purpose;
and all of this gathered up in adoration—
the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable, and therefore the chief remedy for that self-centeredness
which is our original sin and the source of all actual sin.”
William Temple

* March of Dimes Walk America - The problem of premature birth has been with us since at least Biblical times, but during the last 20 years, the rate has increased dramatically, and no one knows why. Today one in eight babies in Indiana is born prematurely.
You and someone you may have known had a baby too soon or too small, struggling to survive. You may know a baby that is today fighting for its life in a neonatal intensive care unit. We invite you to help with your prayers and by forming a Family Team for Walk America.
On Saturday, April 29, 2006 will hold Walk America to raise money for research and innovative programs to help save the lives of these tiny babies.
Contact our local office of the March of Dimes at 3540 Coleman Ct., Lafayette or call 448-6641.
* For those wishing a visit at any time by Pastor Robertson please be sure you let Stephanie know you are interested. Pastor Robertson’s office hours are Tuesday - Friday 9:00am – 12:00 pm, or by appointment.

We will have a picnic sometime during the summer and plan to resume next fall as usual. We are still studying Mark and having a great time with this gospel. Please note, we will not have Bible Study on April 2 (due to conflicts) and April 16 which is Easter. If you have any questions, contact Jane Stewart.
* If you need prayer or other help from the church or know of anyone else that does, please call one of the elders or deacons.
