Sunday, April 30 Bulletin

The Order for the Worship of God

Faith Presbyterian Church 9:30 a.m., April 30, 2006 We invite all into a common discipline of silence as we gather for worship. Then we will greet and welcome one another into the presence of the Lord.

Hymn Sing

Greeting & Invocation

Hymn # 428 “O Worship the King”

Confession of Faith: Question 1 - Heidelberg Catechism

Question: What is your only comfort, in life and in death?

Answer: That I belong—body and soul, in life and in death—not to myself but to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ, who at the cost of his own blood has fully paid for all my sins and has completely freed me from the dominion of the devil; that he protects me so well that without the will of my Father in heaven not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, that everything must fit his purpose for my salvation. Therefore, by his Holy Spirit, he also assures me of eternal life, and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.

Anthem “We Have One Faith” --Joseph M. Martin

Prayer for Illumination Jurgen Honig

Old Testament Lesson: Micah 4: 1 - 5
Jurgen Honig
1In days to come the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be raised up above the hills. Peoples shall stream to it, 2and many nations shall come and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth instruction, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. 3He shall judge between many peoples, and shall arbitrate between strong nations far away; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more; 4but they shall all sit under their own vines and under their own fig trees, and no one shall make them afraid; for the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken. 5For all the peoples walk, each in the name of its god, but we will walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever.

Lector: “This is the Word of God.”

Congregation: “Thanks be to God for His Word.”

Children’s Sermon

Hymn # 490 “Blessed Assurance: Jesus Is Mine”

New Testament Lesson: John 20: 19 - 31
19When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 20After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” 22When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” 24But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. 25So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.”
26A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.” 28Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 29Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.” 30Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. 31But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.

Next Sunday’s Sermon will be on:
“The Sign of Joy and Sorrow ”
Pastor Stuart D. Robertson

Worship
…is the quickening of conscience by God’s holiness;
the nourishment of mind with His truth;
the purifying of imagination by His beauty;
the opening of the heart to His love;
the surrender of the will to His purpose;
and all of this gathered up in adoration—
the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable, and therefore the chief remedy for that self-centeredness which is our original sin and the source of all actual sin.” William Temple

Welcome
To all who are weary and seek rest; to all who mourn and long for comfort; to all who struggle and desire victory; to all who sin and need a Savior; to all who are idle and look for service; to all who are strangers and want fellowship; to all who hunger and thirst after righteousness; and to whosoever will come--this church opens wide her doors and offers her welcome in the name of Jesus Christ her Lord.
Guests please sign our guest book and join us in the Fellowship Hall after worship.
Babysitting is available during worship for infants up to 2-1/2 years old in the room behind the balcony. Children ages 2-1/2 through 5 will be in the Pre-School Nursery in the Education Wing. School age children worship with their parents.

Music Words

“An Easter Carol”
The whole bright world rejoices now, Hilariter, hilariter;
The birds do sing on every bough Alleluia, alleluia.

Then shout beneath the racing skies, Hilariter, hilariter;
To him who rose that we might rise, Alleluia, alleluia.

And all you living things make praise, Hilariter, hilariter;
He guideth you on all your ways, Alleluia, alleluia.

He, Father, son, and Holy Ghost - Hilariter, hilariter!
Our God most high, our joy and boast. Alleluia, alleluia!

CHINA HERITAGE MISSION TRIP
by Alice Landolt

THIS SUNDAY, APRIL 30TH

During Sunday School hour Alice Landolt will tell and show slides about their trip to China to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Presbyterian Mission Hospital that Alice’s grandfather founded.

A Pitch-in will follow at noon.
Bring a dish or two to share. Plates, silver, and beverage will be provided.

Deacons’ Emergency Aid Fund

Specified contributions from individuals in the congregation are used to provide emergency financial aid to individuals or families in the local community. These funds help cover expenses such as gas or electric bills or rent. Since our last request for funding this past November, we have been able to respond at some level to help cover expenses during the winter season.
The Emergency Aid Fund at Faith currently is very low and needs new contributions if we are to continue this much needed community service. Checks or cash should be inserted in a green Deacons’ Fund envelope found in nearly every pew, and placed in the collection plate. Contributions may also be mailed directly to the church, specified for use in the Emergency Aid Fund. Our effort is deeply appreciated by the recipients. For more information speak to Ken Wark (for the Emergency Aid staff) or Dorothy Bethel (for the Deacons).
