Greeting & Invocation
Hymn # 376 “All Glory, Laud, and Honor”
Psalter: Psalm 9: 1 -10 (Read responsively) Jerry Matthews
1I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
2I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
3When my enemies turned back, they stumbled and perished before you.
4For you have maintained my just cause; you have sat on the throne giving righteous judgment.
5You have rebuked the nations, you have destroyed the wicked; you have blotted out their name forever and ever.
6The enemies have vanished in everlasting ruins; their cities you have rooted out; the very memory of them has perished.
7But the Lord sits enthroned forever, he has established his throne for judgment.
8He judges the world with righteousness; he judges the peoples with equity.
9The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.
10And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.
Anthem “Hosanna in Excelsis Deo!” --Ronald Kauffmann
Prayer for Illumination Jerry Matthews
Old Testament Lesson: I Kings 17: 1 - 11 (Bible pg. 320)
Jerry Matthews
1Now Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.” 2The word of the Lord came to him, saying, 3“Go from here and turn eastward, and hide yourself by the Wadi Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. 4You shall drink from the wadi, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.” 5So he went and did according to the word of the Lord; he went and lived by the Wadi Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. 6The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the wadi. 7But after a while the wadi dried up, because there was no rain in the land.
8Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, 9“Go now to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and live there; for I have commanded a widow there to feed you.” 10So he set out and went to Zarephath. When he came to the gate of the town, a widow was there gathering sticks; he called to her and said, “Bring me a little water in a vessel, so that I may drink.” 11As she was going to bring it, he called to her and said, “Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”
Lector: “This is the Word of God.”
Congregation: “Thanks be to God for His Word.”
Children’s Sermon
Hymn # 378 “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna”
New Testament Lesson: John 12: 1 – 11 (Bible pg. 980)
1Six days before the Passover Jesus came to Bethany, the home of Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. 2There they gave a dinner for him. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those at the table with him. 3Mary took a pound of costly perfume made of pure nard, anointed Jesus’ feet, and wiped them with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. 4But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (the one who was about to betray him), said, 5“Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and the money given to the poor?” 6(He said this not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief; he kept the common purse and used to steal what was put into it.) 7Jesus said, “Leave her alone. She bought it so that she might keep it for the day of my burial. 8You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.” 9When the great crowd of the Jews learned that he was there, they came not only because of Jesus but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. 10So the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death as well, 11since it was on account of him that many of the Jews were deserting and were believing in Jesus.

Worship
…is the quickening of conscience by God’s holiness;
the nourishment of mind with His truth;
the purifying of imagination by His beauty;
the opening of the heart to His love;
the surrender of the will to His purpose;
and all of this gathered up in adoration—
the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable, and therefore the chief remedy for that self-centeredness
which is our original sin and the source of all actual sin.”
William Temple

Music Words for Offertory
“Who Is He In Yonder Stall? / His Name Is Wonderful”
Who Is He In Yonder Stall?
Who is He in yonder stall, at whose feet the shepherds fall?
Who is He in deep distress, Fasting in the wilderness?
(refrain) 'Tis the Lord! O wondrous story!
'Tis the Lord! the King of glory!
At His feet we humbly fall, Crown Him! crown Him, Lord of all!
Who is He the people bless for His words of gentleness?
Who is He to whom they bring all the sick and sorrowing? (refrain)
Who is He that stands and weeps at the grave where Lazarus sleeps?
Who is He the gathering throng greet with loud triumphant song? (refrain)
His name is Wonderful, His name is Wonderful,
His name is Wonderful, Jesus, my Lord;
He is the mighty King, Master of everything,
His name is Wonderful, Jesus, my Lord.
He's the great Shepherd, the Rock of all ages,
Almighty God is He.
Bow down before Him, Love and adore Him,
His name is Wonderful, Jesus, my Lord.
