Sunday, August 27 Bulletin
The Order for the Worship of God
Faith Presbyterian Church 9:30 a.m., August 27, 2006
We invite all into a common discipline of silence as we gather for worship. Then we will greet and welcome one another into the presence of the Lord.
Prelude “All Men Living Are But Mortal”
--J.S. Bach, Germany, 1685 – 1750
All men living are but mortal, Yea, all flesh must fade as grass;
Only through death’s gloomy portal to eternal life we pass.
This frail body here must perish ere the heavenly joys it cherish,
Ere it gain the free reward for the ransomed of the Lord.
“When Thou Art Near” --J.S. Bach
If thou be near, I go with gladness
To death and to eternal peace.
To death and to eternal peace.
Ah, how content were thus my ending,
If thy dear hands were laid upon me,
And gently closed my faithful eyes.
Greeting & Invocation
Hymn # 408 “Rejoice, the Lord Is King”
Confession of Faith Question 52 - Heidelberg Catechism
Nancy Dunn
Question: What comfort does the return of Christ “to judge the living and the dead” give you?
Answer: That in all affliction and persecution I may await with head held high the very Judge from heaven who has already submitted himself to the judgment of God for me and has removed all the curse from me; that he will cast all his enemies and mine into everlasting condemnation, but he shall take me, together with all his elect, to himself into heavenly joy and glory.
Special Music
Prayer for Illumination Nancy Dunn
Old Testament Lesson: Isaiah 26: 19 – 21
Nancy Dunn
19Your dead shall live, their corpses shall rise. O dwellers in the dust, awake and sing for joy! For your dew is a radiant dew, and the earth will give birth to those long dead.
20Come, my people, enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until the wrath is past. 21For the Lord comes out from his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity; the earth will disclose the blood shed on it, and will no longer cover its slain.
Lector: “This is the Word of God.”
Congregation: “Thanks be to God for His Word.”
Children’s Sermon
Hymn # 467 “At the Name of Jesus” Vs. 1, 3, 5 & 6
New Testament Lesson: John 5: 25 - 29
25“Very truly, I tell you, the hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. 26For just as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself; 27and he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. 28Do not be astonished at this; for the hour is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29and will come out—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.

Next Sunday’s Sermon will be on:
“The Evidence for Trust in Jesus?”
Pastor Robertson
Worship
…is the quickening of conscience by God’s holiness;
the nourishment of mind with His truth;
the purifying of imagination by His beauty;
the opening of the heart to His love;
the surrender of the will to His purpose;
and all of this gathered up in adoration—
the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable, and therefore the chief remedy for that self-centeredness which is our original sin and the source of all actual sin.” William Temple
Welcome
