Sunday, November 26 Bulletin

The Order for the Worship of God

Faith Presbyterian Church 9:30 a.m., November 26, 2006
We invite all into a common discipline of silence as we gather for worship. Then we will greet and welcome one another into the presence of the Lord.

Prelude "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" arr. John Hustad Mark Johnson, organist

Greeting & Invocation

Hymn # 249 “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty”

Confession of Faith Question 26 - Heidelberg Catechism
Dorothy Bethel

Question: What do you believe when you say: “I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth”?

Answer: That the eternal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who out of nothing created heaven and earth with all that is in them, who also upholds and governs them by his eternal counsel and providence, is for the sake of Christ his Son my God and my Father. I trust in him so completely that I have no doubt that he will provide me with all things necessary for body and soul. Moreover, whatever evil he sends upon me in this troubled life he will turn to my good, for he is able to do it, being almighty God, and is determined to do it, being a faithful Father.

Special Music “Jesus, Joy of Man’s Desiring” --Bach
Tom and Carol Goodrich

Prayer for Illumination Dorothy Bethel

Old Testament Lesson: Jeremiah 31: 7 - 14
Dorothy Bethel
7For thus says the Lord: Sing aloud with gladness for Jacob, and raise shouts for the chief of the nations; proclaim, give praise, and say, “Save, O Lord, your people, the remnant of Israel.” 8See, I am going to bring them from the land of the north, and gather them from the farthest parts of the earth, among them the blind and the lame, those with child and those in labor, together; a great company, they shall return here. 9With weeping they shall come, and with consolations I will lead them back, I will let them walk by brooks of water, in a straight path in which they shall not stumble; for I have become a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.
10Hear the word of the Lord, O nations, and declare it in the coastlands far away; say, “He who scattered Israel will gather him, and will keep him as a shepherd a flock.” 11For the Lord has ransomed Jacob, and has redeemed him from hands too strong for him. 12They shall come and sing aloud on the height of Zion, and they shall be radiant over the goodness of the Lord, over the grain, the wine, and the oil, and over the young of the flock and the herd; their life shall become like a watered garden, and they shall never languish again. 13Then shall the young women rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old shall be merry. I will turn their mourning into joy, I will comfort them, and give them gladness for sorrow. 14I will give the priests their fill of fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my bounty, says the Lord.

Lector: “This is the Word of God.”

Congregation: “Thanks be to God for His Word.”

Children’s Sermon

Hymn # 83 “Talk to the Shepherd”

New Testament Lesson: John 10: 1 – 6
1“Very truly, I tell you, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold by the gate but climbs in by another way is a thief and a bandit. 2The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. 3The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4When he has brought out all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5They will not follow a stranger, but they will run from him because they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6Jesus used this figure of speech with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.

Sermon “Jesus, the Trustworthy Shepherd” Pastor Robertson

There will be no children’s choir today.

Worship
…is the quickening of conscience by God’s holiness;
the nourishment of mind with His truth;
the purifying of imagination by His beauty;
the opening of the heart to His love;
the surrender of the will to His purpose;
and all of this gathered up in adoration—
the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable, and therefore the chief remedy for that self-centeredness which is our original sin and the source of all actual sin.” William Temple

Welcome
To all who are weary and seek rest; to all who mourn and long for comfort; to all who struggle and desire victory; to all who sin and need a Savior; to all who are idle and look for service; to all who are strangers and want fellowship; to all who hunger and thirst after righteousness; and to whosoever will come--this church opens wide her doors and offers her welcome in the name of Jesus Christ her Lord.
Guests please sign our guest book and join us in the Fellowship Hall after worship.
Babysitting is available during worship for infants up to 2-1/2 years old in the room behind the balcony. Children ages 2-1/2 through 5 will be in the Pre-School Nursery in the Education Wing. School age children worship with their parents.

Jubilee Christmas 2006

Jubilee Christmas is coming! We will be hosting 15 families this year. The parents will be invited to select gifts for their children, so they can be the "heroes" on Christmas morning. We will be celebrating Jubilee Christmas on Saturday December 16 at 10 a.m. Breakfast will be served at 9:00 for guests and hosts, and all helpers are invited.
We need a lot of help to make this a special day for our guests. Here's how you can help:
1. Pray. That it will be a day filled with love and blessings.
2. Toys. There is a Christmas tree in the fellowship hall with tags representing gifts ($25-30). There's also a bowl with tags for stocking stuffers ($1-5). If the toy requires batteries, please include 2 sets. Attach the tag to the unwrapped gift and place it in the box in the fellowship hall no later than Sunday December 10.
3. Gift wrap and bows.
4. Cookies and Refreshments*.
5. Family Gifts*. Things like laundry detergent and paper products.
6. Card Tables*.
7. Volunteers*.
a. Each family needs a host.
b. Setup, cleanup, and general help.
8. Money. This helps us to pay for the hams and gift certificates provided by LUM, a hat and mittens for each child, and a gift for each family, as well as purchase any last-minute toys or supplies. Place your gift in the morning offering or in the donations box in the fellowship hall.
*Signup sheets for these are in the fellowship hall.
Through Jubilee Christmas, we not only serve others in the community, but also grow as a community of believers in the Lord. We appreciate your help - Thanks!
Questions? Ron Smith (414-4232), Dorothy Bethel (497-4673).

Here We Go A Caroling

Come one, come all – Sunday, December 10th – for an evening of neighborhood caroling, followed by hot chocolate, snacks and Christmas entertainment. ALL voices – high, low, young, “mature” – are invited. What great time to invite your friends to join in Faith Church Fellowship! Everyone should meet at Faith Church at 5:45pm. We’ll distribute song sheets and travel together to nearby neighborhoods to “make a joyful noise”. We’ll return to the Church around 7:00pm and warm our bodies with hot chocolate and snacks – and our spirits with a program provided by the Youth. Please come and help share the wonderful celebration of Jesus Christ’s birth through the singing of Christmas Carols.
