Psalter: Psalm 111 (read responsively) Grieke Toebes
1Praise the Lord! I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation.
2Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them.
3Full of honor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever.
4He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds; the Lord is gracious and merciful.
5He provides food for those who fear him; he is ever mindful of his covenant.
6He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the heritage of the nations.
7The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy.
8They are established forever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.
9He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever. Holy and awesome is his name.
10The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever.

Special Music Dave & Kris Stith

Prayer for Illumination Grieke Toebes

Old Testament Lesson: Isaiah 55: 1 – 11 (Bible pg. 671)
Grieke Toebes
1Ho, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you that have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. 2Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. 3Incline your ear, and come to me; listen, so that you may live. I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David. 4See, I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples. 5See, you shall call nations that you do not know, and nations that do not know you shall run to you, because of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has glorified you.
6Seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near; 7let the wicked forsake their way, and the unrighteous their thoughts; let them return to the Lord, that he may have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. 9For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, 11so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

Lector: “This is the Word of God.”

Congregation: “Thanks be to God for His Word.”

Children’s Sermon

Hymn # 25 “Jesus, Thy Blood and Righteousness”
(Green Supplemental Hymnal)

New Testament Lesson: John 14: 1 - 11 (Bible pg. 982)
1“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. 2In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.
4And you know the way to the place where I am going.” 5Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” 8Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” 9Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves.

Sermon “How Necessary is Jesus?” Pastor Robertson

Gathering of Tithes and Offerings

Offertory “God Is My Strong Salvation” --Wilbur Held

God is my strong salvation; What foe have I to fear?
In darkness and temptation, My light, my help, is near.
Though hosts encamp around me, Firm in the fight I stand;
What terror can confound me, with God at my right hand?

Please sign and pass the register located in the pew.

Response

Next Week’s sermon will be: “How Can You and I Love Jesus?”
Pastor Robertson

Worship
…is the quickening of conscience by God’s holiness;
the nourishment of mind with His truth;
the purifying of imagination by His beauty;
the opening of the heart to His love;
the surrender of the will to His purpose;
and all of this gathered up in adoration—
the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable, and therefore the chief remedy for that self-centeredness which is our original sin and the source of all actual sin.” William Temple

Welcome
To all who are weary and seek rest; to all who mourn and long for comfort; to all who struggle and desire victory; to all who sin and need a Savior; to all who are idle and look for service; to all who are strangers and want fellowship; to all who hunger and thirst after righteousness; and to whosoever will come--this church opens wide her doors and offers her welcome in the name of Jesus Christ her Lord.
Guests please sign our guest book and join us in the Fellowship Hall after worship.
Babysitting is available during worship for infants up to 2-1/2 years old in the room behind the balcony. Children ages 2-1/2 through 5 will be in the Pre-School Nursery in the Education Wing. School age children worship with their parents.

Mission Notes

Pricila Bible School
Priscila Presbyterian Bible School was established to give residential training to girls by providing a three year course in basic and Christian education. This enables them to go back to their own communities and teach there. It has also established a Department of Music, teaching both vocal and instrumental music, which is open to non-boarding male and female students.

Jonathan & Ali Nichols
Seed and Harvest Ministry of World Concern
Jonathan and Ali work with the Seed and Harvest Ministry of the World Concern Organization (a Christian humanitarian organization that provides emergency relief and community development in some of the most neglected areas of the world). They are in Burkina Faso where they are providing agricultural understanding and assistance and also administer help to a small Bible School which is growing to meet the increasing demand for pastors.
