Prayer of Confession: Bob Verplank
Dear God, our heavenly Father, in your mercy, you have clarified for us right from wrong yet we haven't always taken advantage of what you've made available to us. We've neglected your counsel. You call us to "walk in the Spirit", yet we're not so sure how that's done. We are passive in desiring spiritual growth and content to stay at our current levels of spirituality. It’s no wonder we return to the same problems time and time again; -- and yes, with our complacency, opportunities slip by and needy people go hungering for the spiritual word we leave unsaid. Forgive us, we pray, and causes to amend our ways, in Christ’s name we pray. May it be so.

Declaration of Pardon: Acts 5:30,31

Pastor: When Peter spoke up for Jesus in the Sanhedrin he said these words to them: "The God of our fathers raised Jesus from the dead....God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might give repentance and forgiveness of sins..."

People: In Christ Jesus, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God

First Lesson: Matthew 5: 17 – 20
(NIV)
Bob Verplank
17"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Anthem “For Where Love Is, There Is God” Douglas E. Wagner

Prayer for Illumination Bob Verplank

Second Lesson: Matthew 22: 23 - 32 (NIV) Pastor Green
23That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. 24"Teacher," they said, "Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and have children for him. 25Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother. 26The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh. 27Finally, the woman died. 28Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?"
29Jesus replied, "You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. 30At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. 31But about the resurrection of the dead—have you not read what God said to you, 32'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? He is not the God of the dead but of the living."

Children’s Sermon

Third Lesson: John 17: 8, 14 - 21 (NIV)
8For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me.
14I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. 15My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
20"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

Pastor: “This is the Word of God.”

Congregation: “Thanks be to God for His Word.”

Hymn: # 500 “How Firm A Foundation” Omit vs. 3

Sermon: Series “The Core Values at Faith”
# 2 “Discovering the Will of God” Pastor Ronald M. Green

Creed: (in unison)
We believe and confess the canonical Scriptures of the holy prophets and apostles of both Testaments to be the true Word of God, and to have sufficient author of themselves, not of men. For God himself spoke to the fathers, prophets, apostles, and still speaks to us through the Holy Scriptures.
And in this Holy Scriptures, the universal Church of Christ has the most complete exposition of all that pertains to a saving faith, and also to the framing of a life acceptable to God.

Gathering of Tithes and Offerings

Offertory “Uphold Us, Lord, By Thy Word”
Dietrich Buxtehude (Germany, 1637-1707)

Lord, keep us steadfast in your word;
Curb those who by deceit or sword
Would wrest the kingdom from your Son
And bring to naught all He has done.

Response
Glory be to the Father,
And to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning,
Is now, and ever shall be,
World without end. Amen, Amen. Bethel Park

Worship
…is the quickening of conscience by God’s holiness;
the nourishment of mind with His truth;
the purifying of imagination by His beauty;
the opening of the heart to His love;
the surrender of the will to His purpose;
and all of this gathered up in adoration—
the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable, and therefore the chief remedy for that self-centeredness
which is our original sin and the source of all actual sin.”
William Temple

Mission Notes

Greg & Faith Hurst, Bolivia (SIM)
Greg and Faith Hurst are missionaries with SIM, working in La Paz, Bolivia. They have their three daughters with them -- Kayla, Hannah and Mariah.
One of their primary projects is The Highlands International School, a Christian, English-speaking school with over 60 children enrolled. It provides a quality education for the children of missionaries who come to La Paz to work. The lack of a good school was a major obstacle in attracting missionaries. The school is also raising Bolivians to act as missionaries in Bolivia and elsewhere in the world.
In addition to the school, Greg and Faith are involved with an economic development ministry in La Paz. They try to build up small industries that pay the Bolivian laborers fair wages, produce quality products for export and provide profits that go back into supporting the ministries. One such project is working to export locally produced sweaters to the United States. Another project is to help an existing coffee business called Cafe Yungas (www.cafeyungas.org) to establish and grow an export market in the US.

ECHO
Education Concerns for Hunger Organization
ECHO is a demonstration farm in North Fort Myers, Florida which has been assisting missionaries and developmental workers since 1981. It exists for the major reason of helping those working internationally with the poor to be more effective, especially in the area of agriculture. The mission: network with community leaders in developing countries to seek hunger solutions for families growing food under difficult conditions . The vision: to bring glory to God and a blessing to mankind by using science and technology to help the poor.
