The Order for the Worship of God

Faith Presbyterian Church
9:30 a.m., July 15, 2007
Let the first tone of the organ be a call to quiet meditation in which all may become aware of God’s presence, and lift up a prayer for yourself and for Faith Church.

Prelude Mark Johnson, organist

Welcome, Announcements, and Greet One Another

Invocation

Hymn: # 246 “Come, Thou Almighty King”

Psalter: Psalm 84 (read responsively) Donna Lofgren

Lector: How lovely is thy dwelling place, O Lord of hosts!

Congregation: My soul longs for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God!

Lector: A day in thy courts is better than a thousand elsewhere.

Congregation: I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house
of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.

All: O Lord of hosts, blessed is the on who trusts in thee!

Prayer for Illumination Donna Lofgren

First Lesson: Matthew 28: 16 - 20 (NIV) Donna Lofgren
16Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Special Music“Yes He Did” arr. by Harold DeCou
Carol Goodrich, Grieke Toebes, and Kris Stith

Children’s Sermon

Second Lesson: Matthew 5: 13 - 16 (NIV)
13"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
14"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Pastor: “This is the Word of God.”

Congregation: “Thanks be to God for His Word.”

Hymn: # 446 “If You But Trust in God to Guide You”

Sermon: “The Purpose Driven Church” Pastor Ronald M. Green

Response
Sing praise to God who reigns above,
The God of all creation,
The God of power, the God of love,
The God of our salvation.
My soul with comfort rich he fills,
And every grief he gently stills:
To God all praise and glory!

Postlude

Worship
…is the quickening of conscience by God’s holiness;
the nourishment of mind with His truth;
the purifying of imagination by His beauty;
the opening of the heart to His love;
the surrender of the will to His purpose;
and all of this gathered up in adoration—
the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable, and therefore the chief remedy for that self-centeredness
which is our original sin and the source of all actual sin.”
William Temple

Welcome
To all who are weary and seek rest; to all who mourn and long for comfort; to all who struggle and desire victory; to all who sin and need a Savior; to all who are idle and look for service; to all who are strangers and want fellowship; to all who hunger and thirst after righteousness; and to whosoever will come--this church opens wide her doors and offers her welcome in the name of Jesus Christ her Lord.
Guests please sign our guest book and join us in the Fellowship Hall after worship.
Babysitting is available during worship for infants up to 2-1/2 years old in the room behind the balcony. Children ages 2-1/2 through 5 will be in the Pre-School Nursery in the Education Wing. School age children worship with their parents.

Mission Notes

Lafayette Urban Ministry
Touching the future by helping children and families today
Poverty is the greatest thief. More than depriving a neighbor of food or shelter or warmth, it steals away hope. While other thieves may take away the past, poverty steals the future and self-respect. LUM is in the business of restoring human dignity. Through voluntary efforts and contributions they give back the hope, the future, and the self-respect which all God’s people need and deserve. They provide financial assistance, after school care, shelter, food and support, a children’s summer camp, distribute clothing, mentor teenage girls, and have a hike for hunger. They make Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays brighter for hundreds of families. LUM’s resolution is to help God’s children in need.

Hope Clinic
Hope Clinic (Clinica Benefactora “La Esperanza”) and the Priscila Presbyterian Bible School were founded in the 1960s by a group of Presbyterian doctors, ministers and a missionary couple, Eula and Ernest Mathews. Our interest in these organizations started in the 1970s when a group of people from Faith Presbyterian Church went to the Yucatan to help build a small church there.
The purpose of Hope Clinic is to provide reasonably priced medical care for the poor residents of Yucatan villages. The goals of the clinic are to maintain a Christian atmosphere in the clinic and to deliver its services for the lowest possible prices.
