The Order for the Worship of God

Faith Presbyterian Church
9:30 a.m., July 29, 2007
Let the first tone of the organ be a call to quiet meditation in which all may become aware of God’s presence, and lift up a prayer for yourself and for Faith Church.

Prelude “Amazing Grace” Raymond Haan

Welcome, Announcements, and Greet One Another

Invocation

Hymn: # 454 “Now Thank We All Our God”

Psalter: Psalm 100: 1 – 5 RSV (read responsively)
David McKinnis
1Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the lands!
2Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!
3Know that the Lord is God! It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him, bless his name!
5For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures for ever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

Prayer for Illumination David McKinnis

First Lesson: Romans 12: 3 - 8 (NIV) David McKinnis
3For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. 4Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. 7If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; 8if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

Children’s Sermon

Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 12: 4 - 7 (NIV) David McKinnis
4There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.
7Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

Lector: “This is the Word of God.”

Congregation: “Thanks be to God for His Word.”

Benediction

Postlude “Make Me a Blessing”

Out in the highways and byways of life,
Many are weary and sad;

Carry the sunshine where darkness is rife,
Making the sorrowing glad.

Make me a blessing, make me a blessing,
Out of my life may Jesus shine;

Make me a blessing, O Savior, I pray;
Make me a blessing to someone today.

Worship
…is the quickening of conscience by God’s holiness;
the nourishment of mind with His truth;
the purifying of imagination by His beauty;
the opening of the heart to His love;
the surrender of the will to His purpose;
and all of this gathered up in adoration—
the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable, and therefore the chief remedy for that self-centeredness
which is our original sin and the source of all actual sin.”
William Temple

Welcome
To all who are weary and seek rest; to all who mourn and long for comfort; to all who struggle and desire victory; to all who sin and need a Savior; to all who are idle and look for service; to all who are strangers and want fellowship; to all who hunger and thirst after righteousness; and to whosoever will come--this church opens wide her doors and offers her welcome in the name of Jesus Christ her Lord.
Guests please sign our guest book and join us in the Fellowship Hall after worship.
Babysitting is available during worship for infants up to 2-1/2 years old in the room behind the balcony. Children ages 2-1/2 through 5 will be in the Pre-School Nursery in the Education Wing. School age children worship with their parents.

Mission Notes
Rev. Jack & Mary Anne Voelkel (IVCF)
After 30 years of missionary activity in Colombia, South America, during which they founded a national student movement affiliated with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, and then taught for 10 years in the Biblical Seminary of Colombia, Jack and Mary Anne were invited by InterVarsity to return to the U.S. to help with the planning of the Urbana Student Mission Conventions held in the years 2000 and 2003.
Since then, they have continued to collaborate with InterVarsity. Over the years, Mary Anne has developed, promoted, and guided a ministry of Prayer and Intercession. Jack edits two columns on the Urbana Website: An advice column, "Ask Jack," and an ongoing series of short missionary biographies, "Great Cloud of Witnesses”. Both are involved in a continuing ministry in Latin America.
They reside in Tucson, AZ, near two of their children and their families. They have a third grown son who lives in Vermont.
The Livermores (Campus Crusade)
Scott and Kristen Livermore are affiliated the Student Venture program of Campus Crusade. This coaching program assists local ministry leaders nationwide (by phone, radio, and other new technology) so that many more high school students may be reached with good news of Jesus Christ and then to disciple them after they have accepted Christ. Scott and Kristen live in Orlando, Florida and work at the headquarters of Campus Crusade there. They have four children – Melissa, Jessica, Daniel, and Jonathan.
