The Order for the Worship of God

Faith Presbyterian Church
9:30 a.m., September 2, 2007
Let the first tone of the organ be a call to quiet meditation in which all may become aware of God’s presence, and lift up a prayer for yourself and for Faith Church.

Prelude "Canzonetta" Peter Pindar Stearns

"Great Peace Have They Which Love Thy Law" (Psalm 119:165)

“God Is My Strong Salvation” three settings

God is my strong Salvation, What foe have I to fear?

Welcome, Announcements, and Greet One Another

Invocation

Hymn: “Wonderful Grace of Jesus” See Insert

Call to Confession
In humility and faith, let us confess our sin to God.

Prayer of Confession
Gracious God, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. Forgive what our lips tremble to name, what our hearts can no longer bear, and what has become for us a consuming fire of judgment. Set us free from a past that we cannot change; open us up to a future in which we can be changed; and grant us grace today to grow more and more into your likeness. This we pray through Jesus Christ, the light of the world.

People:
I believe that God, because of Christ’s atonement, will never hold against us any confessed sins, nor our sinful nature against which we need to struggle all our lives.

Pastor:
Through Christ Jesus, we are forgiven and freed forever from judgment. Amen

Prayer for Illumination Lois Wark

First Lesson: Romans 5: 8 - 10 (NIV) Lois Wark
8But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
9Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! 10For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!

Special Music “My Heart Ever Faithful” Grieke Toebes
J.S. Bach
My heart ever faithful, Sing praises, be joyful, Thy Jesus is near.
Away with complaining, Faith ever maintaining, My Jesus is here.

Children’s Sermon

Second Lesson: Colossians 4: 18 (NIV) Lois Wark
18I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand. Remember my chains. Grace be with you.

Lector: “This is the Word of God.”

Congregation: “Thanks be to God for His Word.”

Worship
…is the quickening of conscience by God’s holiness;
the nourishment of mind with His truth;
the purifying of imagination by His beauty;
the opening of the heart to His love;
the surrender of the will to His purpose;
and all of this gathered up in adoration—
the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable, and therefore the chief remedy for that self-centeredness which is our original sin and the source of all actual sin.” -William Temple

Welcome
To all who are weary and seek rest; to all who mourn and long for comfort; to all who struggle and desire victory; to all who sin and need a Savior; to all who are idle and look for service; to all who are strangers and want fellowship; to all who hunger and thirst after righteousness; and to whosoever will come--this church opens wide her doors and offers her welcome in the name of Jesus Christ her Lord.

Good friends:
My neurologist states, emphatically, I may not get behind the wheel of my car until at least November 23rd. Therefore, it is necessary to ask for rides to Sunday service. There have been several members who have kindly helped for many weeks now but some will no longer be able to assist for various reasons. It would be so helpful if a few people could volunteer and maybe just help once a month etc. If anyone can help, please call me at 446-1853. Also, MANY THANKS to all who have brought me to church each Sunday.
With much gratitude and thanks, Janis Matouk
