Hymn # 471 “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name”
Psalter: Psalm 23 RSV (read responsively) Dan Trinkle
1The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his names sake.
4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Prayer for Illumination Dan Trinkle
First Lesson: Romans 8: 11 NIV Dan Trinkle
11And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.
Romans 8: 22 – 23 NIV Dan Trinkle
22We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.
23Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
Anthem “Psalm 150” Cesar Frank
Children’s Sermon
Second Lesson: I Corinthians 15: 19 –22 & 35 - 43 NIV
Dan Trinkle
19If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men.
20But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.
35But someone may ask, "How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?" 36How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. 38But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body. 39All flesh is not the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. 40There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. 41The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.
42So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;
Lector: “This is the Word of God.”
Congregation: “Thanks be to God for His Word.”
Hymn # 618 “Jerusalem the Golden”
Sermon: Series “When the Silver Cord is Severed”
# 2 “What Happens To The Body!
Pastor Ronald M. Green
Confession of Faith: Westminster Larger Catechism Q. 87
Question: What are we to believe concerning the resurrection?
Answer: We are to believe that, at the last day, there shall be a general resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust; when they that are then found alive shall in a moment be changed; and the selfsame bodies of the dead which are laid in the grave, being then again united to their souls forever, shall be raised up b the power of Christ. The bodies of the just, by the Spirit of Christ, and by virtue of his resurrection as their head, shall be raised in power, spiritual, and incorruptible, and made like to his glorious body: and the bodies of the wicked shall be raised up in dishonor by him as an offended judge.
After the sermon children in grades K-6 may leave for children’s choir

Offertory “Mitten wir in Leben sind”
Helmut Walcha (Germany, 1907-1991)
In the midst of life we are surrounded by death.
Who is there to give us aid when we long for comfort?
Only thou, Lord Jesus.
How much we regret our sins that caused God's anger.
Holy Lord God, Holy mighty God, Holy gracious Redeemer.
Thou, eternal God. Do not let us sink down into bitter death.
Lord, have mercy upon us!
Response
We praise you, O God, our Redeemer, Creator;
In grateful devotion our tribute we bring.
We lay it before you, we kneel and adore you;
We bless your holy name, glad praises we sing.

Worship
…is the quickening of conscience by God’s holiness;
the nourishment of mind with His truth;
the purifying of imagination by His beauty;
the opening of the heart to His love;
the surrender of the will to His purpose;
and all of this gathered up in adoration—
the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable, and therefore the chief remedy for that self-centeredness which is our original sin and the source of all actual sin.” William Temple

Babysitting is available during worship for infants up to 2-1/2 years old in the room behind the balcony. Children ages 2-1/2 through 5 will be in the Pre-School Nursery in the Education Wing. School age children worship with their parents.

Jubilee Christmas Assistant Coordinator
Hurrah! Donna Lofgren has volunteered to coordinate Jubilee Christmas this year BUT we still need an Assistant Coordinator. This post usually will involve going to a couple of meetings at LUM (October 16 and November 13) and helping the week before the actual Jubilee Christmas event (December 15). It would be a bonus if the volunteer would agree too hold a coordinator position for two years but if you can only manage one, we’ll be very happy.
If you are interested in this most rewarding post, please contact one of us. Donna Lofgren 497-1134 dlofgren@purdue.edu,

It’s that time again - Fall Clean Up Day
Saturday, November 3
8 am until noon
DONUTS, coffee and juice will be served at 8 am.
Some of the jobs we hope to accomplish are:
..dead heading flowers, perennials
..pruning bushes, trees where necessary (deadwood, etc.)
..weed and feed grassed areas
..last mow maybe
..disconnect hoses and winterize outside taps
..leaf raking/blowing
..gutter clean out
..the west and north outside walls of the sanctuary are getting pretty green so
we may pressure wash the lower areas (usually the worst) if the weather permits.
We will also be cleaning the chandelier in the sanctuary. Some Purdue students will be doing the ladder work, but we’ll need folks to actually clean the glass. There may also be some other small interior jobs to be done, but we don't have a list of them yet.
Everyone who comes should bring tools, garden equipment appropriate for the job he/she wishes to do.
If you can help out, please contact Pat Short (mpshort2@netscape.net or 743-3160) and let her know what you’d like to work on.
Come and have some fun with us, visit with friends and enjoy one of those last good fall days. Hope to see you there!
