The Order for the Worship of God
Faith Presbyterian Church
9:30 a.m., January 6, 2008
Let the first tone of the organ be a call to quiet meditation in which all may become aware of God’s presence, and lift up a prayer for yourself and for Faith Church.
Prelude “Cold December's Winds Were Stilled” Wilbur Held
Cold December's winds were stilled in the month of snowing.
Though the world with dark was filled,
Springrime's hope was growing.
Then a rose-tree blossomed new; one sweet flower upon it grew.
On the tree once bare grew a rose so fair, Ah! the rose, ah! the rose,
Ah! the rose tree blooming, Sweet the air perfuming.
When the darkness fell that night, bringing sweet reposing,
All the world was hid from sight; sleep men's eyes was closing.
All at once there came a gleam from the sky; a wondrous beam
Of a heavenly star giving light afar. Ah! the star, ah! the star
Ah! the star-beam glowing, brightness ever-growing.

Invocation
Hymn # 599 “God of All Ages, Whose Almighty Hand”
Psalter: Psalm 66: 1 - 6 NIV (read responsively) Grieke Toebes
1 Shout with joy to God, all the earth!
2 Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious!
3 Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you.
4 All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing praise to your name."
5 Come and see what God has done, how awesome his works in man's behalf!
6 He turned the sea into dry land, they passed through the waters on foot— come, let us rejoice in him.
Prayer for Illumination Grieke Toebes
First Lesson: Romans 5: 1 - 5 NIV Grieke Toebes
1Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. 3Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

Worship
…is the quickening of conscience by God’s holiness;
the nourishment of mind with His truth;
the purifying of imagination by His beauty;
the opening of the heart to His love;
the surrender of the will to His purpose;
and all of this gathered up in adoration—
the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable, and therefore the chief remedy for that self-centeredness which is our original sin and the source of all actual sin.” William Temple
Welcome
To all who are weary and seek rest; to all who mourn and long for comfort; to all who struggle and desire victory; to all who sin and need a Savior; to all who are idle and look for service; to all who are strangers and want fellowship; to all who hunger and thirst after righteousness; and to whosoever will come--this church opens wide her doors and offers her welcome in the name of Jesus Christ her Lord.
Guests please sign our guest book and join us in the Fellowship Hall after worship.
Babysitting is available during worship for infants up to 2-1/2 years old in the room behind the balcony. Children ages 2-1/2 through 5 will be in the Pre-School Nursery in the Education Wing. School age children worship with their parents.
Mission Notes
Hope Clinic (Yucatan, Mexico)
Hope Clinic (Clinica Benefactora “La Esperanza”) and the Priscila Presbyterian Bible School were founded in the 1960s by a group of presbyterian doctors, ministers and a missionary couple, Eula and Ernest Mathews. Our interest in these organizations started in the 1970s when a group of people from Faith Presbyterian Church went to the Yucatan to help build a small church there.
The purpose of Hope Clinic is to provide reasonably priced medical care for the poor residents of Yucatan villages. The goals of the clinic are to maintain a Christian atmosphere in the clinic and to deliver its services at the lowest possible prices.
Pricila Bible School (Yucatan, Mexico)
Priscila Presbyterian Bible School was established to give residential training to girls by providing a three year course in basic and Christian education. This enables them to go back to their own communities and teach there. It has also established a Department of Music, teaching both vocal and instrumental music, which is open to non-boarding male and female students.
