Welcome, Announcements, and Greet One Another

Invocation

Hymn # 253 “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty”

Prayer of Confession: (unison)
Gracious God, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. Forgive what our lips tremble to name, what our hearts can no longer bear, and what has become for us a consuming fire of judgment. Set us free from a past that we cannot change; open us up to a future in which we can be changed; and grant us grace today to grow more and more into your likeness. This we pray through Jesus Christ, the light of the world. Amen

Declaration of Pardon
Pastor: If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone, the new has come!

People: All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.
Pastor: Our message is that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them.

People: Through Jesus we are forgiven! Thanks be to God!

Prayer for Illumination Donna Lofgren

First Lesson: John 7: 10 – 14, 37 - 39 NIV Donna Lofgren
10However, after his brothers had left for the Feast, he went also, not publicly, but in secret. 11Now at the Feast the Jews were watching for him and asking, "Where is that man?"
12Among the crowds there was widespread whispering about him. Some said, "He is a good man."
Others replied, "No, he deceives the people." 13But no one would say anything publicly about him for fear of the Jews.
14Not until halfway through the Feast did Jesus go up to the temple courts and begin to teach.
37On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." 39By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.

Second Lesson: Ephesians 5: 15 - 19 NIV Donna Lofgren
15Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. 18Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. 19Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord.

Lector: “This is the Word of God.”

Congregation: “Thanks be to God for His Word.”

Sermon Series: “Harnessing the Pentecostal Power”

Worship
…is the quickening of conscience by God’s holiness;
the nourishment of mind with His truth;
the purifying of imagination by His beauty;
the opening of the heart to His love;
the surrender of the will to His purpose;
and all of this gathered up in adoration—
the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable, and therefore the chief remedy for that self-centeredness which is our original sin and the source of all actual sin.” -William Temple

Welcome
