Welcome and Greeting
Invocation
Hymn # 246 Come, Thou Almighty King
Psalter: Psalm 23 NRSV (read responsively) David McKinnis
1The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
2He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters;
3he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake.
4Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff—they comfort me.
5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long.
Prayer for Illumination David McKinnis
First Lesson: Matthew 9: 9 - 13 NRSV David McKinnis
9 As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, ‘Follow me.’ And he got up and followed him.
10 And as he sat at dinner in the house, many tax-collectors and sinners came and were sitting with him and his disciples. 11When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, ‘Why does your teacher eat with tax-collectors and sinners?’ 12But when he heard this, he said, ‘Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13Go and learn what this means, “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.’
Lector: “This is the Word of God.”
Congregation: “Thanks be to God for His Word.”

Children’s Sermon
Hymn # 287 Have Thine Own Way, Lord
Second Lesson: Romans 5: 1 - 11 NRSV
1Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7Indeed, rarely will anyone die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person someone might actually dare to die. 8But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us. 9Much more surely then, now that we have been justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from the wrath of God. 10For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more surely, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life. 11But more than that, we even boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Worship
…is the quickening of conscience by God’s holiness;
the nourishment of mind with His truth;
the purifying of imagination by His beauty;
the opening of the heart to His love;
the surrender of the will to His purpose;
and all of this gathered up in adoration—
the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable, and therefore the chief remedy for that self-centeredness which is our original sin and the source of all actual sin.” -William Temple

* American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life – Peggy Housley will be participating in this on June 27 – 28 at the Jefferson High School track. She invites anyone in the church who would like to support her team’s efforts to do so by making a donation. Join us for the Luminaria Ceremony at 9:00 pm (dusk) on June 27 when the names of the loved ones will be read and the luminaries will be lighted. You can light the way to a cure for cancer, and honor friends or family members who have fought cancer or are currently battling cancer. During the candle lighting ceremony, hundreds of luminaries will be lit with the names of those honored inscribed on each bag. Anyone purchasing a luminary is encouraged to come & participate in the most moving ceremony they have ever experienced by lighting their candles along with hundreds of other people. A change this year for the Luminaria Ceremony is that as well as the $10 donation per name lining the track, there is also the opportunity to make a $25 donation per name for a purple luminaria which will spell HOPE and CURE on the bleachers and/or a $100 donation per name for a circle of Hope torch with a laminated placard which will be secured in a place of honor. Please contact Peggy TODAY. Thank you for helping us reach our financial goal as well as our goal for a cure through your gifts or luminary purchases.
