Hymn # 6 Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee
(Green Supplemental Hymnal)
Psalter: Psalm 29 NRSV (read responsively)
Elder Josephine Honig
1Ascribe to the LORD, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
2Ascribe to the LORD the glory of his name; worship the LORD in holy splendor.
3The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD, over mighty waters.
4The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.
5The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
6He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, and Sirion like a young wild ox.
7The voice of the LORD flashes forth flames of fire.
8The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
9The voice of the LORD causes the oaks to whirl, and strips the forest bare; and in his temple all say, "Glory!"
10The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD sits enthroned as king forever.
11May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace!
Prayer for Illumination Elder Joe Hufford
First Lesson: I Kings 18: 20 – 21 & 30 - 39 NRSV
Elder Joe Hufford
20So Ahab sent to all the Israelites, and assembled the prophets at Mount Carmel. 21Elijah then came near to all the people, and said, "How long will you go limping with two different opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him." The people did not answer him a word.
30Then Elijah said to all the people, "Come closer to me"; and all the people came closer to him. First he repaired the altar of the LORD that had been thrown down; 31Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the LORD came, saying, "Israel shall be your name"; 32with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD. Then he made a trench around the altar, large enough to contain two measures of seed. 33Next he put the wood in order, cut the bull in pieces, and laid it on the wood. He said, "Fill four jars with water and pour it on the burnt offering and on the wood." 34Then he said, "Do it a second time"; and they did it a second time. Again he said, "Do it a third time"; and they did it a third time, 35so that the water ran all around the altar, and filled the trench also with water. 36At the time of the offering of the oblation, the prophet Elijah came near and said, "O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that you are God in Israel, that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your bidding. 37Answer me, O LORD, answer me, so that this people may know that you, O LORD, are God, and that you have turned their hearts back." 38Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and even licked up the water that was in the trench. 39When all the people saw it, they fell on their faces and said, "The LORD indeed is God; the LORD indeed is God."
Lector: “This is the Word of God.”
Congregation: “Thanks be to God for His Word.”
Hymn # 14 Be Thou My Vision
(Green Supplemental Hymnal)
Second Lesson: I Corinthians 3: 5 - 9 NRSV
Pastor Emeritus Stuart Robertson
5What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you came to believe, as the Lord assigned to each. 6I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. 7So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. 8The one who plants and the one who waters have a common purpose, and each will receive wages according to the labor of each. 9For we are God's servants, working together; you are God's field, God's building.

Offertory Something For Thee Roy Brunner
3. Give me a faithful heart, likeness to Thee,
That each departing day, henceforth may see
Some work of love begun, some deed of kindness done,
Some wanderer sought and won, Something for Thee.
Response
Give thanks with a grateful heart,
Give thanks to the Holy One,
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son. (repeat)
And now let the weak say, “I am strong!”
Let the poor say, “I am rich, because of what the Lord has done for us!”
Give thanks with a grateful heart,
Give thanks to the Holy One,
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son.
Give thanks. Give thanks. ∆
