Pastor's Pen
I am grateful to the young folks from our Youth Group who led us in Worship on April 26th. It has been great getting to know our talented teenagers this past year. We wish our graduating seniors (Jenna, Jim, and Carson) well and pray that they will have great success in the future. The teenagers were assisted by the children’s choir in leading Worship. It is good to see that our youth group has a bright future as the younger children will be moving into our Youth Group in a few years.
I thank all of you who helped us observe the great Holy Day of Easter this year. Some of you helped prepare the food for the Easter Brunch. The Youth Group prepared the banner that was in Fellowship Hall. They also prepared and led the Easter egg hunt. And many of you came to join us in Worship on that great day. I thank all of you. It was a great day. But what we celebrated was a greater truth than can be contained in any one day. We who are Christians should be living every day in the Joy that comes from the fact that Jesus overcame death for himself and for us and all who believe.
As a reminder that Easter is never over, this year we have kept the Easter Pulpit Fall in the sanctuary where it will remain through the Season of Easter or Eastertide. It will eventually be replaced by the Pentecost Pulpit Fall on May 31st. As we have a chance to appreciate the variety of our beautiful Pulpit Falls during this time when the liturgical seasons change, I want to thank Kathleen Kirsch for making them for us. They are admired by many and they remind us of several of the symbols of Christendom as they adorn our Pulpit from which God’s Word is read and proclaimed.
On May 17th we will observe the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. Lizzie Kucik will be receiving the sacrament. Lizzie’s presence with us is a gift of Gods grace to us as well as to her family and we will be privileged to place her on our roll of Baptized members.
On Pentecost Sunday we will celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit. During Worship that day we will hear a verse of Scripture read in several different languages as a way of remembering the miracle of that first Pentecost in Jerusalem when all who were in that city heard the apostles proclaiming the good news about Jesus in their own language. This will also be a way of recognizing that God’s Holy Spirit has created our congregation out of many nationalities.
I will not be here on Memorial Day Weekend. Diane and I will be celebrating the graduation of our youngest son Nathaniel from RIT in Rochester, NY. Rev. Ralph Smith will be preaching and leading Worship on the 24th of May. It is a real blessing to have Ralph and Barbara as a part of our congregation and our Choir.
Those of you who have children or grandchildren and whose neighbors have children or grandchildren will want to note that our Vacation Bible School will be on the first full week of June, June 8th – June 12th. We have a great volunteer staff for VBS this year and we look forward to hosting many children for the week. Some of the children from the Korean Presbyterian Church will also be joining us again this year.
As Autumn begins in August around here, it also seems that Summer begins for some of us in May. So I wish all of you a relaxing and/or profitable Summer. Remember that God does not take vacations, so please try to find your way to a place of worship each Sunday if you are going away.
My God bless each one of us as we work to please the God who gave us new and eternal life in Jesus.
Your Pastor,
Dave Horner

Hymn Sings in May
On four Sunday mornings in May, starting on May 10, we will begin our Worship service with a Hymn Sing. Usually, members of the Worship and Music Committee take turns choosing hymns, but this time we want to give YOU a chance to let us know which hymns you wan to sing. Your suggestions need to be in the office by WEDNESDAY of each week, so that the Hymn Sing leader can incorporate them, and so that the Hymn numbers can be printed in the bulletin. Of course you may suggest songs from both hymn books.
We look forward to your participation.
For the Worship & Music Committee, Grieke Toebes
Graduates
Do you know of someone connected to our Faith congregation who is graduating this spring? We, here at Faith, want to recognize these significant accomplishments and celebrate with our young friends and family members. Please let me know the names of graduates and the schools from which they will be graduating. Thank you!

Vacation Bible School Update
Don’t forget that we will be studying A Shepherd Boy Becomes a King during the week of June 8-12 from 9:00 until 12:00 A.M. every day.
Plans are well underway. Staffing is virtually completed, lessons are lined out, and all the worker bees are busily preparing. The enthusiasm of the people in this church is outstanding. We really look forward to a wonderful week of learning, celebrating, and exploring with our children.
A group of excited teachers and workers met on April 6 to get plans synchronized. A finalization meeting will be held May 18 at 7:00 P.M. at the church. Be in prayer for a very successful VBS this year.
Your help and prayers are greatly appreciated.

Congregational Life
A major role of the Congregational Life Committee at Faith is to encourage the continuing development of relationships within our family. At a recent meeting of this committee it was mentioned that many of the adults in our ‘family’ do not think they know the children in our congregation as well as they would like.
At a child’s Baptism the congregation is asked to “support and nurture the child, helping them to grow in grace”. It is hard to do that on any level, if we are not able to recognize the child during our social times, whether at special dinners or between church & Sunday school.
The Congregational Life Committee would like to deal with this need. Bob Verplank has agreed to take the children’s pictures. Therefore, in the next few months, these pictures will be displayed on a bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall. There will also be some information about each child so you can get to know them.
Peggy Housley has been approaching parents for their permission for this project. Please call the church office or Peggy if you have not been contacted up to the date of this publication.
A Huge Banner
A huge banner….The Lord Has Risen Indeed!..., greeted Easter worshippers as they moved from the sanctuary into the Fellowship Hall for Faith’s Easter Brunch. The banner was the work of the Youth Group. Thank you all very much!
The celebration was enjoyed by our congregation because of the efforts of many individuals. It began Saturday morning when several energetic people decorated the Fellowship Hall with the flowers and flowering tree branches from Jane & Terry Stewart’s. Our traditional lamb cakes were made by the Bergmann’s (Mayfawny, Sophia & Sue) and the Latour’s (Chase, Sawyer & Amber) again this year. The refreshing punch was prepared & served by Carol Graefnitz. The many varied dishes were provided by the generous and talented cooks at Faith. As is said…“Last but not least”, the Fellowship Hall and kitchen clean-up was completed and back to its original state as the result of the many helping hands.
Thanks everyone for you assistance.
It was a blessed day to celebrate ….The Lord has risen Indeed!

Presbyterian Habitat House
As spring temperatures finally arrive, so does the serious building
season for Habitat for Humanity. The Presbyterian build will be among
the builds scheduled for this summer. We are currently expecting to
begin construction in August.
We will return to Lafayette for this year's build -- it will be at 1617
North 16th St. However, before we begin construction we need to raise
the remainder of our $46,000 total. Last year one of our partner
churches, Hope Chapel, closed their doors. They divided their remaining
funds between a few local missions, one being the Presbyterian Habitat
house. With their generous gift we are now within $12,000 of our goal.
A contribution of any amount will be greatly appreciated. A donation
can be sent directly to the Habitat for Humanity of Lafayette office at
420 South 1st. Street, Lafayette, IN 47905, or you can give it to Daniel
Trinkle for delivery to Habitat. Please make checks payable to Habitat
for Humanity of Lafayette, and include "Presbyterian Build" in the memo
area.
Thank You
Hanna and I just want to thank everyone that contributed to the shower and made it run so smoothly. We had a wonderful time and are very grateful for all of the gifts; though I think some of the stories about me that were shared may have scared Hanna (and her mother) a bit, they should soon recover. Again, thank you everyone. It was a blessing to be with church family and share come past memories. God Bless.

Did You Know???
You did know spring has been randomly sighted in and around the county. Songbirds and Canada geese appear to have accepted spring's arrival without the signs humans deem necessary – warm air, sunshine, non-repeating heavy rain showers. This, too, will pass.
Continued prayers, please, for our brother Ron Green as he continues his search for the place he is to serve.
If you wondered about the large, attractive Easter banner in Fellowship Hall, you'll be glad to know it was put together by the youth group. Thank you!
Easter worship at Faith was a glorious celebration of Christ's resurrection and new beginnings for Christians everywhere. The music was heavenly; the pews filled, the traditional Easter Brunch was accorded its proper attention.
Sincerely,
Bible School is coming up and plans are moving forward rapidly. Are their children in your neighborhood who would benefit from this week-long experience?
We all enjoyed the shower for Mark and Hanna Varys – the luncheon was delicious and the decorations quite spring-like and lovely. No doubt Mark had not planned on hearing so much about his younger years, but laughed along with the church ladies about his «escapades.» Best wishes to both of you.
Life moves on with more graduations, showers, weddings and new babies. Life is good. God is good.
