Let the first tone of the organ be a call to quiet meditation in which all may become aware of God’s presence, and lift up a prayer for yourself and for Faith Church.

Psalter: Psalm 40: 1 - 8 NRSV (read responsively)
Jerry Matthews
1I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry.
2He drew me up from the desolate pit, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.
3He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.4
Happy are those who make the Lord their trust, who do not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after false gods.
5You have multiplied, O Lord my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you. Were I to proclaim and tell of them, they would be more than can be counted.
6Sacrifice and offering you do not desire, but you have given me an open ear. Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required.
7Then I said, “Here I am; in the scroll of the book it is written of me.
8I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.”
Prayer for Illumination Jerry Matthews
First Lesson: Matthew 5: 1 - 11 NRSV Jerry Matthews
1When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. 2Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:
3“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. 6“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7“Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. 8“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. 10“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11“Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.
Lector: “This is the Word of God.”
Congregation: “Thanks be to God for His Word.”
Anthem My Jesus, I Love Thee by Adoniram J. Gordon
Children’s Choir
Children’s Sermon
Hymn # 6 Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee
(Green Supplemental Hymnal)
Verse 1 sung by Children’s Choir
Second Lesson: Philippians 3: 10 - 21 NRSV
10I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the sharing of his sufferings by becoming like him in his death, 11if somehow I may attain the resurrection from the dead. 12Not that I have already obtained this or have already reached the goal; but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. 13Beloved, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus.
15Let those of us then who are mature be of the same mind; and if you think differently about anything, this too God will reveal to you. 16Only let us hold fast to what we have attained.
17Brothers and sisters, join in imitating me, and observe those who live according to the example you have in us. 18For many live as enemies of the cross of Christ; I have often told you of them, and now I tell you even with tears. 19Their end is destruction; their god is the belly; and their glory is in their shame; their minds are set on earthly things. 20But our citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. 21He will transform the body of our humiliation that it may be conformed to the body of his glory, by the power that also enables him to make all things subject to himself.
Sermon “Do You Know Jesus?” Pastor Horner
After the sermon children in grades K-6 may leave for children’s choir
Gathering of Tithes and Offerings
Offertory O Let My Name Engraven Stand Robert Powell
"Behold, I have engraven thee upon the palms of my hands"
(Isaiah 4916a)
O let my name engraven stand
Both on thy heart and on thy hand;
Seal me upon thine arm, and wear
That pledge of love for ever there.
Response
Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord to thee.
Take my moments and my days;
Let them flow in endless praise,
Let them flow in endless praise.

Worship
…is the quickening of conscience by God’s holiness;
the nourishment of mind with His truth;
the purifying of imagination by His beauty;
the opening of the heart to His love;
the surrender of the will to His purpose;
and all of this gathered up in adoration—
the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable, and therefore the chief remedy for that self-centeredness which is our original sin and the source of all actual sin.” -William Temple

Announcements
* Ushers this morning are Doug Jones & Sergey Dubikovsky and Dan & Kathy Trinkle.
* The flowers this morning are provided by the Livermore’s.
For more than 25 years Faith Presbyterian has partnered with the Livermore family to impact lives of middle and high school students - for that we praise God. Your generous giving, kind words and fervent prayer have encouraged and sustained us. We are so grateful for your partnership and friendship, we pray that the sanctuary flowers, in a tangible way, expresses our gratitude to you!
* THANK YOU - The Congregational Life Committee wants to thank everyone involved with the Valentine Carry-In. We specially thank Ron Smith, Becky and Bert Chapman for their help with the clean up along with the wonderful hard working committee members. I'm happy to report that all the valentines put in the valentine box have been delivered.
* You might wonder when someone is sick or has just had a baby, who is it that checks to see if they need some special meals or perhaps rides to doctor appointments, well they are the Caring Committee. For years, members like Grieke Toebes, John Miller and Lois Wark have been handling these things quietly and effectively. Recently Peggy Housley has become a new member of this committee by graciously volunteering to help arrange for meals. I am sure she will appreciate a word to her about your willingness to help when called on.
* And here's yet another small way to contribute. We are all enjoying having the tables dressed up a bit in the Fellowship Hall. One idea for decorating is to have some larger doilies for the center of the tables to liven up a darker tablecloth. So we are looking for donations of doilies at least 12' in diameter, preferably white, as a permanent donation. We don't want your treasured heirlooms, but if you have some doilies that you don't really have a use for and want them to find a good home we would enjoy using them in Faith's home.
* If you need prayer or other help from the church or know of anyone else that does, please call Pastor Horner or one of the elders or deacons.
* For those wishing a visit at any time by Pastor Horner please be sure you let Stephanie know you are interested. Pastor Horner’s office hours are Monday – Thursday 9:30am – 1:30pm, or by appointment.
