The Order for the Worship of God

Follow along by watching our livestream on our YouTube channel at 930a on Sunday.

Let the first tone of the organ be a call to quiet meditation in which all may become aware of God’s presence, and lift up a prayer for yourself and for Faith Church.

Call to Worship

Hymn     # 431     All Creatures of Our God and King          (Gray Psalter Hymnal)

Psalter:     Psalm 145:1-13a     (NRSVUE)

1I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever.

2Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever.

3Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised; his greatness is unsearchable.

4One generation shall extol your works to another and shall declare your mighty acts.

5They will recount the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works I will meditate.

6They will proclaim the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness.

7They shall celebrate the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.

8The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

9The LORD is good to all, and his compassion is over all that he has made.

10All your works shall give thanks to you, O LORD, and all your faithful shall bless you.

11They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power,

12to make known to all people your mighty deeds and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.

13Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations.

Prayer for Illumination

Old Testament Reading     Micah 6:1-8

6 Hear what the LORD says: Rise, plead your case before the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice. 2Hear, you mountains, the case of the LORD, and you enduring foundations of the earth, for the LORD has a case against his people, and he will contend with Israel.

3“O my people, what have I done to you? In what have I wearied you? Answer me! 4For I brought you up from the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery, and I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. 5O my people, remember now what King Balak of Moab devised, what Balaam son of Beor answered him, and what happened from Shittim to Gilgal, that you may know the saving acts of the LORD.”

6“With what shall I come before the LORD And bow myself before God on high? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? 7Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?” 8He has told you, O mortal, what is good, and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?

Lector: This is the Word of the Lord.

Congregation: Thanks be to God for His Word.

Life is full of little things, but don’t be fooled, O no!

The Lord can use those little things in ways we’ll never know

Life is full of little things, but don’t be fooled, O no!

The Lord can use those little things in ways we’ll never know

Smile at a neighbor

Say hello

Send a happy birthday card to Uncle Joe

Help with the dishes

Clean your room

You could even learn to use a mop and broom

Find who’s unhappy

Give some cheer

Tell someone who needs a friend that you are near

Bake someone cookies

Send a wink

Give a thirsty friend of yours a cold, cold drink

Life is full of little things, but don’t be fooled, O no!

The Lord can use those little things in ways we’ll never know

Life is full of little things, but don’t be fooled, O no!

The Lord can use those little things in ways we’ll never know

In ways we’ll never know

In ways we’ll never know

Hymn     # 73     We are Singing, For the Lord is Our Light          (Supplemental Hymnal)

New Testament Reading     2 Timothy 1:1-7, 3:14-17

1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, for the sake of the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus,

       2To Timothy, my beloved child:

Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

3I am grateful to God—whom I worship with a clear conscience, as my ancestors did—when I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. 4Recalling your tears, I long to see you so that I may be filled with joy. 5I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that lived first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, lives in you. 6For this reason I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is within you through the laying on of my hands, 7for God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.

14But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15and how from childhood you have known sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17so that the person of God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.
