The Order for the Worship of God

Faith Presbyterian Church     9:30 a.m.

Follow along by watching our livestream on our YouTube channel at 930a on Sunday.

Let the first tone of the organ be a call to quiet meditation in which all may become aware of God’s presence, and lift up a prayer for yourself and for Faith Church.

Prelude     Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr          F.W. Zachow

Welcome and Greeting

Hymn     # 6     Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee          (Supplemental Hymnal)

Psalter:     Psalm 20     NRSV          Ray Graham

1The Lord answer you in the day of trouble! The name of the God of Jacob protect you!
2May he send you help from the sanctuary, and give you support from Zion.
3May he remember all your offerings, and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices.

4May he grant you your heart’s desire, and fulfill all your plans.
5May we shout for joy over your victory, and in the name of our God set up our banners. May the Lord fulfill all your petitions.

6Now I know that the Lord will help his anointed; he will answer him from his holy heaven with mighty victories by his right hand.
7Some take pride in chariots, and some in horses, but our pride is in the name of the Lord our God.

8They will collapse and fall, but we shall rise and stand upright.

9Give victory to the king, O Lord; answer us when we call.

Prayer for Illumination          Ray Graham

First Lesson:     Isaiah 55:10-13     NRSV          Ray Graham

10For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, 11so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

12For you shall go out in joy, and be led back in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall burst into song, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. 13Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress; instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; and it shall be to the Lord for a memorial, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

Lector: This is the Word of the Lord.

Congregation: Thanks be to God for His Word.

Children’s Sermon

Q. 101. For what do we pray in the first request?

A. In the first request (hallowed be thy name), we pray that God will glorify himself, both in our own actions and in everything that is done.

Hymn     # 500     How Firm a Foundation          (Gray Psalter Hymnal)

Second Reading:     Titus 1:1-4

1Paul, a bondslave of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ,

for the sake of the faith of God’s chosen ones and the knowledge of the truth, which results in godliness,

2and on the basis of the hope of eternal life,

which God, who never lies, promised in eternity before time began,

3but now, in his own time, he has revealed his word in the preaching with which I was entrusted by the command of God our savior.

4To Titus, my true child in a common faith,

Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our savior

Prayer of Dedication, Thanksgiving, and Intercession

The Rev. Asaph and Lynn, our EPC missionary partners in Asia, continue their efforts to spread God’s word and establish EPC churches through the EPC World Outreach program.  Their work focuses on planting churches, equipping those churches and their leaders to grow to maturity, enabling them to reproduce themselves in their own culture, imparting a vision to send their own people as cross-cultural missionaries, and partnering with them to do so.
