The Order for the Worship of God

Follow along by watching our livestream on our YouTube channel at 930a on Sunday.

Let the first tone of the organ be a call to quiet meditation in which all may become aware of God’s presence, and lift up a prayer for yourself and for Faith Church.

Prelude     Avinu Malkeinu          Christina Harmon

Our Father, our King, do it for the sake of Your great, mighty and awesome Name which is proclaimed over us.

Our Father, our King, be gracious to us and answer us, for we have no meritorious deeds; deal charitably and kindly with us and deliver us.

Welcome and Greeting

Hymn     # 249     Holy, Holy, Holy          (Gray Psalter Hymnal)

Prayer for Illumination          Matthew Kain

Old Testament Reading:     Genesis 1:1, 14-27     ESV

       1In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

       14And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark

sacred times, and days and years, 15and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. 16God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, 18to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

       20And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” 21So God

created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and

every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” 23And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.

       24And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. 25God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

       26Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

       27So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Choir Anthem:     Come People of the Risen King

New Testament Reading:     Revelation 4:9-11, 5:8-10     NRSV

       9And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to the one who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, 10the twenty-four elders fall before the one who is seated on the throne and worship the one who lives forever and ever; they cast their crowns before the throne, singing,

       11“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”

       8When he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell before the Lamb, each holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9They sing a new song:

       “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slaughtered and by your blood you ransomed for God saints from every tribe and language and people and nation; 10you have made them to be a kingdom and priests serving our God, and they will reign on earth.”

Lector: This is the Word of the Lord.

Congregation: Thanks be to God for His Word.

Children’s Sermon

Hymn     # 59     Oh How He Loves You and Me          (Supplemental Hymnal)

Psalter:     Psalm 148     (Please read responsively)

1Praise Yahweh! Praise Yahweh from the heavens; praise him in the heights!

2Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his armies!

3Praise him, sun and moon! Praise him, all you stars of light!

4Praise him, highest of heavens and you waters that are above the heavens!

5Let them praise the name of Yahweh! Because he commanded, and they were created.

6He caused them to stand forever. He gave a decree, and it will not pass away.

7Praise Yahweh from the earth, you sea monsters and all the deep waters;

8Fire and hail, snow and fog, and the stormy wind that does his word;

9Mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars;

10Wild animals and all livestock, creeping things and winged birds;

11Kings of the earth and all nations, princes and all earthly judges;

12Young men and young women, the elderly and the youths!

13Let them praise the name of Yahweh, because his name alone is

exalted; His majesty is over the earth and the heavens.

14He has lifted up a horn for his people—praise for all his godly ones, for the children of Israel, a people near to him. Praise Yahweh!
