The Order for the Worship of God

Follow along by watching our livestream on our YouTube channel at 930a on Sunday.

Let the first tone of the organ be a call to quiet meditation in which all may become aware of God’s presence, and lift up a prayer for yourself and for Faith Church.

Prelude     Joy to the World

Welcome and Greeting

Call to Worship - Candle Lighting          The Winter Family

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world; the one who follows me will not walk in darkness but have the light of life.”

We light these candles as a sign of the light of Christ that has come.

“In the Word was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not

overcome it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light. The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.”

      — John 1:4-9, NRSV

We praise you, Lord Jesus, our light and our salvation.

Let us walk in the light of the LORD.

Carol     #27     I Wonder As I Wander

I wonder as I wander out under the sky

How Jesus, the Savior, did come for to die

For poor, ornery people like you and like I

I wonder as I wander out under the sky

When Mary birthed Jesus ’twas in a cows’ stall

With wisemen and farmers and shepherds and all

But high from God’s heaven a star’s light did fall

And the promise of ages it then did recall

If Jesus had wanted for any wee thing

A star in the sky, or a bird on the wing

Or all of God’s angels in heaven to sing

He surely could have had it

Cause he was the king

I wonder as I wander out under the sky

How Jesus, the Savior, did come for to die

For poor, ornery people like you and like I

I wonder as I wander out under the sky

Confession of Faith: Nicene Creed     In Unison

We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, begotten from the Father before all ages; God from God, Light from Light, True God from True God, begotten, not made, of the same essence as the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made human. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried. The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead. His kingdom will never end.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life. He proceeds from the Father and the Son, and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified. He spoke through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and to life in the world to come. Amen.

Old Testament Reading:     Psalm 48:1-3     (NSRV)

1Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised in the city of our God. His holy mountain, 2beautiful in elevation, is the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion, in the far north, the city of the great King. 3Within its citadels God has shown himself a sure defense.

Carol     # 13     I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day

I heard the bells on Christmas day

Their old familiar carols play

And wild and sweet the words repeat

Of peace on earth, good will to men

I thought how, as the day had come

The belfries of all Christendom

Had roll’d along th’un broken song

Of peace on earth, good will to men

And in despair I bow’d my head

There is no peace on earth, I said

For hate it strong and mocks the song

Of peace on earth, good will to men

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep

God is not dead, nor doth he sleep

The wrong shall fail, the right prevail

With peace on earth, good will to men

New Testament Reading:     Revelation 21:1-7

21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,

“See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them; They will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; 4he will wipe every tear from their eyes.
Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.”

5And the one who was seated on the throne said, “See, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 6Then he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give water as a gift from the spring of the water of life. 7Those who conquer will inherit these things, and I will be their God and they will be my children.

Carol     # 346     Go, Tell It on the Mountain

Chorus:

Go, tell it on the mountain

Over the hills and everywhere

Go, tell it on the mountain

That Jesus Christ is born

While shepherds kept their watching

O’er silent flocks by night

Behold, throughout the heavens

There shone a holy light

The shepherds feared and trembled

When lo! Above the earth

Rand out the angel chorus

That hailed our savior’s birth

Down in a lowly stable

The humble Christ was born

And God sent us salvation

That blessed Christmas morn

Benediction
